Welcome to Common Ground, a panfandom dressing room based in the Doctor Who universe. Or rather, just outside of it.

WHAT IS THIS ANYWAY

Common Ground is a coffee shop that exists between worlds, outside time and space proper. It can be accessed through any doorway by anyone with a strong enough urge for coffee. Or tea. Or hot chocolate, or scones, or a hot Welshman, or advice, et cetera. Something something pocket universe, something something time scoop maybe. We’ll pull an RTD and come up with a great explanation of how it all works after the fact.

Common Ground is run by a Ianto Jones, who unfortunately cannot leave, but you know what, it’s fine. He’s fine with it. He’s sort of dead, or he died, at least, so it’s not like there’s anything to leave for. And if you decide to stay – temporarily, of course – there are rooms above the shop available to rent for as long as you like. Metaphorically for rent. What’s Ianto going to do with money in a pocket universe? Take a room if you want, he’ll mark you on the list.

You can get just about anything you like at Common Ground. The specialty is coffee, of course. Isn’t it just the best coffee you’ve ever had? It’s really good. And such a cozy atmosphere! You’ve got your tables and chairs, your couches, your, you know, whatever you want. You’ll find it’s a somewhat flexible space with a remarkably flexible menu.

There are just a few rules at Common Ground, and they’re written on a chalkboard, neatly printed, for all to see:

1. Be nice.
2. No violence.
3. Don’t make a mess.

Of course, if Ianto doesn’t see you, anything’s fair game.

WHAT ABOUT THE OOC RULES THO

Okay, yeah, I’m getting to those.

1. Be nice. We’re all here to have fun.
2. If your post contains violent or sexual situations, please mark it as such.
3. Smut is not allowed. Please take it to your personal journals. If you wouldn’t awkwardly watch it on the couch with your parents, don’t put it here.
4. No canon-puncturing unless specifically allowed.
5. If the other character is going to be physically or mentally manipulated through your character’s actions, ask first. If your character wants to punch someone, get permission, or phrase it in such a way that leaves the landing/effect of the punch up to the other writer.
6. Any and all characters are allowed. Voice testing? Hit us up. Got an AU? So do we. There’s already one or five of your character? We don’t care! Throw characters at us.

All you need to do to play is join the comm and start posting. Please be advised, though, that the mods reserve the right to remove anyone from the community. If any issue arises, we will discuss it with the player directly.

HMM BUT I HAVE OTHER QUESTIONS

We prefer third person present tense, but we won’t force it on you. Please at least be cognizant of whatever the original post uses and try to respond in kind.

Open and closed threads are allowed. Please mark your posts as such in the subject line. If you would specifically like Ianto to respond, please indicate so, either by marking the post as open/closed to i_jones or open/closed + i_jones (if it is opened/closed for others). He may respond even if you haven't requested him. It is his coffee shop, after all. If you would like to work out something specific with Ianto, please feel free to message i_jones.

We prefer to indicate OOC with the ol’ two parentheses and a 'small' html tag for good measure, but however you do it, make sure it’s distinct from IC text. If you want to have a whole conversation, please bring it to the OOC comm. Which will be a thing very shortly.
